Newswire/ -- A New York organization committed to fighting the drug problem in communities, workplaces, and schools recently made its first local impact by providing Daleville, Ala., police with information that led to a drug seizure.
"The war on drugs has a new ally in the Wiregrass," Daleville Staff Sgt.
Steve Steiner Jr. formed the grassroots anti-drug organization "DAMMADD" or Dads and Moms against Drug Dealers in 2001, after he lost his 19-year-old son to an accidental drug overdose.
Mathis said the DPD had never heard of the organization when they received the call, but after talking with and working with the rganization, DAMMADD is seen as an invaluable asset for those wanting to participate in the war on drugs and remain anonymous.
The organization even pays cash for any tip that leads to an arrest and successful conviction of a drug dealer.
DAMMAD's goal is to assist any law enforcement agency by providing tips about drug activity given through the organization.
"Not every tip has to be about a drug kingpin, but can be about the street corner dealer," Steiner said.
"In environments where drugs are prevalent, fear is used to suppress action.
The DPD believes that this grass root effort is a worthwhile tool.
"We encourage anyone with drug tips or information to email, call, or write the organization," Mathis said.
