From Ascribe Newsfeed:
Led by the National Partnership for Women & Families, a coalition of over 100 organizations, representing tens of millions of workers is urging the Bush Administration's Department of Labor (DOL) not to use administrative procedures to reduce workplace protections for millions of workers and their families that are entitled to protections of the 1993 federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
The deadline for comments on the proposed changes to the FMLA is April 11.
The Coalition is mobilizing to ensure the DOL receives comments opposing these proposed regulatory changes that could scale back FMLA access for workers.
To reserve a spot, please call Jason Shevrin at (202) 326-8700.
Since its 1993 enactment, the FMLA has been used by millions of workers to take unpaid leave from work for an illness in their family, the birth or adoption of a child, or other family health needs without fear of losing their job or health insurance.
In January, Congress passed and President Bush signed the Military Expansion for Injured Servicemembers Act to allow military family members who already qualify for FMLA to take expanded leave to care for an injured service member.
The DOL is potentially holding up the enactment of this much needed expansion by including a request for more information on the provisions along with the proposed regulations.
