The American Lung Association of California today released the following media advisory.
The American Lung Association of California will release its first ever local State of Tobacco Control report card, issuing grades for the 88 cities in Los Angeles and 34 cities in Orange County cities as well as those who didn't make the grade.
At the conference, grades rated A through F will be unveiled for all cities in both counties.
These tobacco control report cards, considered a snapshot in time, measure how well city leaders and officials protect their citizens from harmful secondhand smoke exposures in city parks and recreation areas, entryways, service lines, outdoor dining, and apartments.
The local governments are also graded on preventing youth access to tobacco through tobacco retailer licensing laws.
While some communities have adopted smoke free outdoor ordinances for parks and dining areas, protections are still lacking for millions of Los Angeles and Orange County residents who are susceptible to secondhand smoke - a major contributor to causes of lung cancer, emphysema, asthma, heart attacks and stroke.
