AmeriCorps Grant to Strengthen Local Goodwill Family Support Programs

From Ascribe Newsfeed:

The Corporation for National Community Service has awarded Goodwill Industries International a $441,000 AmeriCorps National Direct Grant to administer a multi-state program to build a corps of volunteers that will support the organization's family strengthening programs.

"At Goodwill, we know that it takes more than a good job to move families out of poverty and toward financial independence and stability," says George W. Kessinger, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries International.

The AmeriCorps members will recruit volunteers and help local Goodwill staff implement a range of family support programs, such as money management, child and adult literacy, and tutoring and mentoring for youth.

Goodwill Industries International will provide technical assistance to the participating Goodwill agencies, a comprehensive reporting and evaluation system, and, ultimately, a volunteer management system that can be replicated at Goodwill agencies across North America.

"Goodwill recognizes that dedicated volunteers are essential to the long-term success and sustainability of community programs offered by nonprofit organizations," says Kessinger.

- Provides job training and employment services, job placement opportunities and post-employment support.

- 2,100+ retail stores and an online auction site, www.shopgoodwill.com.
