National Conference of Black Mayors, Inc. Calls for National Day of Prayer, Remembrance in Wake of Anniversary of Katrina |

From U.S. Newswire Releases: The National Conference of Black Mayors, Inc. (NCBM) has called for a National Day of Prayer for the families and communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. Mayors from across the country will come together in unity to pray for the Gulf Coast and thousands of citizens still feeling the aftermath of the storm one year later. We come together for a National Day of Prayer but it is also a charge to this country to not forget what happened, to not forget the people still battling the storm one year later, and most importantly not to forget but to do all that we can collectively to ensure that lives and communities are restored," said Vanessa R. Williams, NCBM executive director. Collectively we must help rebuild lives and restore hope throughout the Gulf Coast," said Johnny Dupree, mayor of Hattiesburg, Miss. In remembrance of the devastation that was caused by Hurricane Katrina, mayors of NCBM will be flying flags at half-staff. NCBM requests that the rest of the nation join them on this day of remembrance.
